The Prophets — God's Messengers

God chose prophets to deliver His messages — warnings, hope, and predictions about the future. They weren't living safe, comfortable lives: some were thrown in pits, swallowed by fish, or placed in lions' dens.

Key Prophets to Know

Isaiah

Jeremiah

Called by God as a teenager to be a prophet. Known as the "weeping prophet" for his grief over Israel's rebellion.

Ezekiel

Known for wild, vivid visions — including the famous valley of dry bones coming back to life.

Daniel

Survived a night in a lions' den and interpreted dreams for kings. His friends survived a fiery furnace.

Jonah

Tried to run from God — it didn't go well. Swallowed by a giant fish and given a second chance.

Amos

A shepherd turned prophet who boldly called out social injustice and the mistreatment of the poor.

Epic Stories from the Prophets

More Unforgettable Moments

Isaiah Predicts Jesus — 700 Years Early

Isaiah 53 contains one of the most remarkable passages in the Bible — a detailed description of a suffering servant that Christians believe points directly to Jesus Christ, written centuries before His birth.

God Calls a Teenager

In Jeremiah 1, God calls Jeremiah to be a prophet while he's still young. Jeremiah protests that he doesn't know how to speak — but God promises to put His words in his mouth.

The Valley of Dry Bones

In Ezekiel 37, the prophet sees a vision of a valley full of dry bones that come rattling back to life — a powerful image of restoration and hope for a broken people.

Key Themes of the Prophets

God Sees Injustice

God cares deeply about how people treat one another — the prophets repeatedly call out oppression and the mistreatment of the poor.

Consequences Are Real

When people turn away from God, there are real consequences. The prophets warned Israel again and again before disaster came.

God Offers a Way Back

No matter how far people stray, God always offers a path of return. He is big on second chances — just ask Jonah.

Hope in the Darkness

Even in the bleakest moments, the prophets promised something better was coming. Hope is never absent from their message.

A Savior Is Coming

The prophets hint at it constantly — a coming Messiah who will set everything right. Isaiah 53 is the clearest example.
